Centre Manager Update – 14th August 2026

As we come to the end of another heatwave, I hope you have all been coping okay. A quick note for our gym users: the gym is air conditioned, but it does not work as effectively when the windows are open, so please keep them closed. 😊

Congratulations to all the students receiving results this week. Some of our staff have also received results, and we are so proud of everyone’s hard work. Well done to you all.

More congratulations – Roy Eastwood our Pickleball coach and his playing partner won the mixed doubles English open title at the NEC earlier this week.

At reception this week, we have a few of last year’s Aspire Channel Swim towels available for a £10 donation. I have one myself — they are microfibre, with a bright design that is perfect for the pool or beach.

Maintenance Updates

·       The Flue replacement works started this week and are due to be completed next Tuesday.

·       Painting works will start next Tuesday, there will be signage up, please be aware.

A couple of customers have asked about the water restrictions. At present, we are continuing to backwash the pool water as normal. If the advice changes, we will let you know.

We are aware there have been some issues with summer class instructor cover. Instructors generally arrange cover themselves and then let us know who will be covering them, but there have been some miscommunications over the last couple of weeks. We apologise to those who have been affected, and we will review how we can improve this process going forward.

Centre Manager Update – 7th August 2026

We have been running a Pool Lifeguard course at the centre this week, with candidates completing their assessment today. The next course will run during the October half term: Pool Lifeguard & Swimming Courses.

Maintenance Updates

·       We have had our solar panels cleaned this week, hopefully you caught the pics on our Instagram story.

·       The team have cleared the foliage from the sign at the Wood Lane entrance.

·       We had some new chairs delivered for our sports hall balcony seating area.

·       The gym entrance sign has been replaced with a nice new sign.

·       The external fire exit works are now scheduled for October.

The Aspire Channel Swim returns to Aspire Leisure Centre this autumn, and we'd love you to be part of it.

The challenge is to swim the distance of the English Channel over the autumn, completing your lengths at your own pace across multiple visits.

You can complete the challenge in whatever way suits you: swim on your own, take part with friends or family, or count the lengths you swim during lessons or regular training sessions. It's a fantastic way to stay motivated, set yourself a new goal, and make your time in the pool count.

The challenge is free to enter, but we're asking everyone who takes part to raise sponsorship if they can. Every pound raised will help Aspire, the national charity behind Aspire Leisure Centre, provide practical support to people living with spinal cord injury.

So, are you ready to dive in?

Sign up for free today at www.aspirechannelswim.co.uk and make every length count.

Finally, we wish good luck to all students receiving exam results next week — and to the parents supporting them. The wait is almost over!
