How is it September already! Time to get back into routines 😊 Here are this week’s centre updates, including maintenance work, upcoming courses and a lovely member spotlight.
If you have children aged 16 or over who are strong swimmers, we are running a National Pool Lifeguard Course over the October half term. More information is available on our website: Pool Lifeguard & Swimming Courses.
Maintenance Updates
· The roof rail annual inspection is taking place today.
· The front entrance door repair work started yesterday.
· Painting works in the café area will start Saturday evening.
· Pool area and café floor deep cleaning will take place overnight on 16th September.
· The gym equipment service is scheduled for 15th September.
Thank you for your patience while we continue making improvements around the centre.
Member spotlight
I have mentioned our Aspire Channel Swim Challenge in previous updates, and one of our lovely members, Parisha, is taking on this year’s challenge at Aspire Leisure Centre. Parisha used the gym before her spinal cord injury and is very grateful for the support Aspire has been able to give her. You can read more about her journey here: Parisha's remarkable swim journey.
If you would like to take part in the Aspire Channel Swim Challenge, you can find out more here: Aspire Channel Swim 2026.

Centre Manager Update 27th August 2026
As we fast approach the end of August, don’t forget that the Bank Holiday on Monday means slightly reduced opening hours, from 7am to 8pm. Swimming lessons will operate as usual, and the café will be open from 9am to 3pm.
Maintenance Updates
· The long awaited repairs to the front doors will take place early September.
· The painting work has continued this week in the pool corridor, the Café repaint will start next week.
· We had our carpets and upholstered seating cleaned last night.
· The door handle in the ladies change has been replaced.
There should be minimal disruption while the painting continues, but please take care around any temporary signage and follow any directions from the team.
I also had a company visit this week to quote for refurbishment work in some areas of the pool changing rooms. We will need to raise the funds before this work can go ahead, but it forms part of our longer-term improvement plan, alongside a future refurbishment of the gym.
Staffing Updates
We have had a couple of new staff join the team: Jules joins us as a full-time Lifeguard, and Madeline joins us as a Fitness Instructor. Please do say hello if you see them around the centre.
We will say goodbye to our Pool Team Leader, Tom, towards the end of September as he moves on to pastures new. Before he leaves, he is completing one final fundraiser: the Vitality 10k run. He has a collection bucket at reception or you can donate via this link https://www.justgiving.com/page/tom-haylock-vitality10k?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=CL
That’s all for this week. I hope you all enjoy the long weekend, and thank you as always for your patience while we continue making improvements around the centre.
